Community

The Community Commission is an essential element of parish life which draws parishioners together in mutual support, activities, growth and celebration.

Boy Scouts

A parish sponsored organization for boys 12-18 which helps them, through work and play, to become better citizens.  Weekend camping trips Sept. – June (one per month), week-long camping in July, community service including Adopt-a-Highway, Scouting for Food, Meals on Wheels, Operation Christmas Child, twice a year grounds clean-up at St. Athanasius and Keating Fire Company.

Cub Scouts

Boys from 6 to 11 years old learn skills and hobbies and how to be healthy and strong.  We teach boys positive Christian values in an alcohol, drug and tobacco-free environment.  We camp, fish, hike, do handicrafts, field trips, etc.

Christian Mothers

A spiritual and social group open to all women.  Our meetings are socials with various types of programs.  We have monthly meetings with speakers and/or programs to help us spiritually, intellectually and to socialize.  We contribute to our Pastor's projects for the parish and other charitable organizations like St. Vincent DePaul, St. Joseph's House of Hospitality, Community and Non-Profit Organizations, annual communion breakfast, covered dish dinners, and Day of Recollection.  Praying the Rosary at the funeral home for deceased members, attendance at funeral Mass, cards to sick members, help at the festival and other parish organizations, and praying for families and each other.

Needle Threaders

The Needle Threaders make comfort quilts for members of our community to let them feel the love, support, and encouragement from the parish during difficult times.  They also make many items for the church, homeless, nursing homes, hospitals, charity in addition to sewing for special projects.

Parish Festival / Flea Market

Our annual parish festival is normally held on the last weekend of July.  In addition to being our largest fund raiser of the year, the festival provides parishioners and neighbors an excellent opportunity to socialize and have fun.  Our annual flea market is held the Saturday before the beginning of the parish festival and also all three evenings during the festival.  This event gives those volunteers who enjoy flea markets an opportunity to go through our donations and sort out the treasures for resale.  It requires a lot of effort but we have a great time and enjoy the fellowship of parishioners we have grown to know better over months of working together.

Volunteer Coordinating

To engage parishioners to volunteer their time and talents in anyway needed.  This group will find those people interested in performing a single task on a one‑time basis, or possibly multi-times throughout the year.  We do NOT recruit members for other ministries.

Welcoming Committee

Welcomes newcomers to the parish with a “Welcome Basket.”  Makes contact with new parishioners to help them feel connected to our parish.  Organizes the semi‑annual Welcome Gatherings.

The St. A's family welcomes new parishioners at the Welcome Gathering Social.

Young Adults

Activities for young adults ages 18 through 39.  Programs include discussions, events, service, and time together on the parish, vicariate, and diocesan level.
